Money as Lubrication

Money may be a human creation but it definitely has a Divine purpose. Sometimes I think of money like a lubricant in machine work. While it is not doing the work itself, it can simplify and ease the process at hand. There is no doubt that money has facilitated commerce and transactions in a way that never could be possible with a barter system.

The purposes of a lubricant are as follows:
  1. to keep moving parts apart
  2. reduce friction
  3. transfer heat
  4. carry away contaminants and debris
  5. transmit power
  6. protect against wear and
  7. prevent corrosion
In the barter economy, there is a considerable amount of “friction” in commerce. Imagine that you would like to buy a cut of meat. The butcher has a need for some eggs and milk but you make clothing. In order to complete your transaction, you will have to find eggs or milk from someone who needs clothing. Potentially very complicated!

Money is one of the things that bridges the gap between potential and manifestation. It eases the exchange of goods, services and ideas. It speeds up and optimizes the process of getting things to where they are best used. Whenever you are having “dis-ease” about the role of money in your life just sit and remember that in fact it has created a great deal of ease in your day-to-day life and give thanks.

And so it is!
