Work is love made visible. And if you cannot work with love but only with distaste, it is better that you should leave your work and sit at the gate of the temple and take alms of those who work with joy.
Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet
Why do you do the work that you do? Is it for the money? Do you love what you do? Please give this question some serious consideration and answer honestly, because you must understand that the answer is critically important to your experience of wealth. Love is not something that comes to us from outside ourselves. Love is an internal orientation to the world, a posture from which we have gratitude and appreciation for the details of our life.
Not everyone is blessed enough to be directly working in the field of their dreams. However, that is not an impediment to loving what you do.
Most of us struggle with the idea of loving our work, because we are not in the present moment. We are either looking back on the good old times or we are waiting for the next big opportunity to really fall in love. The fact is that in order to move into our greater good, we must find the love in the present moment.
This does not mean that you have to be doing your dream job right now. It also does not mean you should quit your job and go looking for something else. That is avoiding the issue at hand and will take you a step backward. It is never helpful to walk away from the lesson of the moment.
Considering the number of hours we spend at work, work really cannot and should not be just for the sake of survival. Work in its truest sense is the manifestation and fulfillment of life force.
The truth is that there is something to love about any and every job. Where you are at present is an important step on your journey. There is a reason you are in the place that you are in at the moment. What are the lessons of this moment? What skills are you learning which will be critical to fulfilling your divine purpose? Are you open to learning something new about yourself?
